Palm Springs

Palm Springs

Happy Thursday! I have a fun new travel diary to share with you. For my birthday and the long Fourth of July weekend, Joe and I journeyed out to Palm Springs. This is somewhere I have wanted to go for so long - I always see the most perfect picturesque photos on Instagram (especially of #thatpinkdoor!), So I knew I had to venture out here soon. It was super hot when we went - almost as hot as Vegas has been so that wasn't the most fun part but we did swim a lot so it was fine. We spent about four days there and I'm going to tell you that you definitely do not need four days there, however - we had so much time to just relax and lounge around and that was my favorite part.

I made a list of a few places I wanted to stop by so we made sure to do most of those first and we completed them in almost the first day! Palm Springs is not too big but it's a nice, fancy little city especially if you like pool time, golfing or just fun modern architecture. Some of the neighborhoods are fun to drive around just to peak at the incredible houses! It has been a goal of mine to visit the Pink Door ever since I first saw it on Instagram and I couldn't believe when we actually drove up and saw it in person. We also stopped by the Parker hotel to try to snap a photo of their famous orange door and white covering. That was a bit tricky since we weren't staying there; It is very fancy and they always have people pulling up to valet but we snapped a few photos.

The first place we went to was Koffi. I ordered a basic iced vanilla latte and it was delicious! It was literally five steps from our hotel so that was pretty cool. For brunch one day we went to the restaurant inside the Ace Hotel called King's Highway - that was one of my favorites. It was honestly a little pricey but the portions were huge and the food was delicious. We also explored the Ace Hotel a bit as they have such great decor all around the rooms (which by the way look like apartments!). I also was given a Polaroid camera for my birthday right before we left and I was ecstatic to use it so I snapped a few photos with it during out trip as well.

We also went to the Saguaro hotel. I was planning to stay here originally but found a much better deal on another hotel so we decided we'd just visit and it was such a fun building. All of the rooms are brightly colored and the pool area in the middle of the hotel is so big and lively. Definitely a must to either stay or at the very least visit. We also stopped in for lunch to Apetito one day and had pasta. It was a much different restaurant that I thought it'd be but it was delicious and I'd probably go there again but for dinner this time ;)

The last two places we made it to were some of my favorites. We drove about an hour and a half on Sunday morning out to Salvation Mountain! It is basically this huge art installation that a man built completely himself! Salvation Mountain is a visionary environment covering a hill in the Colorado Desert, northeast of Niland, several miles from the Salton Sea. The artwork itself is made from adobe, straw, and thousands of gallons of lead-free paint and was created by local resident Leonard Knight. It encompasses numerous murals painted with Christian sayings and Bible verses, though its philosophy was built around the Sinner's Prayer. People drive from all over (because it's kind of in the middle of nowhere) to see it and I think that is so cool! That was definitely one of my favorite things about the trip as well. This has been on my to-do travel list for forever as well. The last place I want to talk about is the Moorten Botanical Gardens. This garden was also about five steps across from our hotel and we went one morning before lunch and it was beautiful! There were so many cacti all around and you could go on your own self guided tour and everything. My favorite part of the garden was the greenhouse. I would HIGHLY recommend checking this out in particular if you plan to visit Palm Springs.

I know this a long post but I wanted to make sure I didn't leave anything out as this was truly one of the best trips of my life. My favorite part of the entire trip was honestly getting to go adventure out each day doing whatever we wanted and then swimming during sunset and then relaxing in our king sized bed, eating pizza. Sometimes it is so nice to get away from everything and that was just what we did! We went to discover our own little slice of paradise for a long weekend and this is a trip I will remember forever. Please enjoy the photos we snapped below! Comment below if you see I missed anything so we can make it happen next time! Thanks for reading :)
