Why I Started Blogging (And Why You Should, Too!)

Why I Started Blogging (And Why You Should, Too!)

I get asked this question more and more of why I started blogging and how I went about creating my blog. I originally started blogging because I wanted a place to share all my photos, travels and thoughts. My website has been quite the project for as long as I can remember because I kept changing my mind on how I wanted it to look or it wasn't quite perfect, etc. I liked the idea of having one place for everything to come together and live on the web in my own space. I wanted a place to share my thoughts, feelings and ideas without fearing judgement and I wanted a place to share all of the photos I take when Joe and I travel or when my sister, Kady and I decide to do a crazy photoshoot. As of lately, I have really been trying to figure out and stick to a schedule of some sort for my posts (pretty much all of my favorite blogs that I follow seem to have some kind of schedule and I like knowing when to expect a post). I really like the idea of having a new post go up every Tuesday - We'll see how that goes ;) Anyway, the more I think about blogging, the more I love it. The more I write posts, take pictures and share them, the more I am inspired to do more of them.

Now! On to why I think you should definitely start blogging. I think if you are even a little bit interested in it, you should give it a shot. Blogging is not for the confident, know-it-all kind of person. It is for the shy, learn-everyday-from-everything kind of person. Blogging is a shared experience and with it you can gain friendships, opportunity and growth in your community. Plus, a lot of people actually gain income from blogging, so there's that possibility, too. I put off sharing posts for such a long time (most of the ones I've written up, I've never even shared!) because I thought there are already too many blogs so who'd want to read mine anyway? And the truth is, that doesn't even really matter. Yes, readership is GREAT! However, that shouldn't be the only thing fueling you. Blogging is like journaling and journaling is life to me. I can barely go one day without scribbling in my journal - it's such a wonderful release to clear your mind and sort your thoughts out.

Now on to the How! I get this question probably the most of How did I start my own blog? I will tell you that it will be easier to start now than to wait until you think you're ready. Whatever kind of fear is holding you back from doing this if you're wanting to, let go of it and get to work! People love to read other people's thoughts and experiences and as long as you're honest and genuine, people will love you. There is nothing you should be afraid of - the world is at your fingertips. I first started on Blogger (if you don't count Xanga - Am I the only person who had a blog on there??!). I eventually moved to WordPress and I hated it. There were constant updates and my widgets were always crashing. I work a full time job so all of the extra time I could've been investing in my blog, I used trying to figure out how to salvage my site. I eventually moved to SquareSpace, Blogger and then back to SquareSpace. Blogger is a great beginner choice for bloggers. If you want a more professional or customizable website, I would strongly recommend SquareSpace. WordPress is great for this, too - I just personally have never got off too well with it so it's not my preference. SquareSpace is very user friendly and very sleek looking. Once you pick a name, you set up your blog and you start blogging - it's really that simple. Probably the hardest thing is finding a schedule that works for you and sticking with it. Don't neglect your blog or you will feel like you're starting over every single time.

I know this was a fairly long post and I commend you if you're still here, but this has been on my mind lately, especially since I actually get many inquiries about this in particular and I was feeling inspired so I thought I'd share a little nugget with you all. I hope you gained something from this and I hope you enjoyed reading this!
